The Chicago Fire traded first half goals with FC Dallas for a 1-1 stalemate at Toyota Park Thursday evening. David Ferreira struck first for the Texan side before Brian McBride equalized shortly before halftime. The Brimstone Cup feature showed little of the passion of its earlier years, with both teams appearing complacent throughout.

With Patrick Nyarko starting on the right side, the Chicago Fire dominated the first 25 minutes of the game. Then Nyarko and the mostly ineffective Marco Pappa switched positions. With each player pinching in more, the Fire lost their width and were easier to defend. Though it was Pappa who later found the net for Chicago, the team came up short to the visiting San Jose Earthquakes. Still, ASN’s Jeff Tobin finds plenty to build on and supplies player ratings for the home side.

Chicago Fire get their man: Carlos de los Cobos

After a long courtship, the Chicago Fire have hired their new coach for the 2010 season: Carlos de los Cobos. The former Mexican international defender has experience at the highest level, representing his country in the 1986 World Cup, along with coaching in Mexico with Club America and at the national team level with El Salvador. The hire is a bold move by the team’s ownership.
