Conrad snafu leads to long night for U.S. at the Home Depot Center

The U.S. Men’s National Team fell 3-1 to Honduras in its opening match of 2010 after playing down a man for more than 70 minutes at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif. The U.S. was thrown into difficult circumstances after just 17 minutes, when defender Jimmy Conrad was shown a second yellow card for a foul in the box. Fans can vote on whether they believe the Mexican referee made the correct call with that decision.



U-20 USWNT blow out Jamaica in opener of CONCACAF championships

The U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team kicked off its run at the 2010 CONCACAF Women’s Championship with a 6-0 victory over Jamaica at Estadio Cementos Progreso in Guatemala City. Christine Nairn and Sydney Leroux, who were both part of the team that won the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, each scored a brace. Teresa Noyola and Tiffany McCarty added one goal apiece.



USWNT kick start Algarve Cup title defense with training camp

No sooner has the Women’s Professional Soccer draft been completed that the U.S. Women’s National Team has convened at The Home Depot Center for an extended 20-day training camp in Carson, Calif. The runs through Feb. 4 and features two scrimmages against the Korea Republic Women’s National Team. More importantly, it gives head coach Pia Sundhage a final look at her crop of players before selecting the 18-player roster for the Algarve Cup that kicks off Feb. 24.



Fulham, Bob Bradley speak on Dempsey injury

U.S. Men’s National Team midfielder Clint Dempsey will not require surgery on an injured knee, according to a statement from Fulham Football Club following an MRI evaluation. Dempsey suffered moderate damage to a ligament in his right knee during Fulham’s 2-0 loss on Jan. 17 at Blackburn. The club said it expects Dempsey to be back in action prior to the end of the season.



Chicago, Northern Calif., won’t see World Cup action in 2018/22

Squad named for U-20 Women’s CONCACAF championship

U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team head coach Jillian Ellis has named the 20 players who will attempt to earn a berth to the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Germany through the CONCACAF qualifying tournament being held Jan. 19-30 in Guatemala City, Guatemala.

U-20 Men start new cycle with Calif. training camp

The U.S. U-20 Men’s National Team will hold its first training camp of the new two-year cycle beginning on Wednesday, Dec. 16, and continuing through Dec. 23, in Chula Vista, Calif. Head coach Thomas Rongen has called in 36 players from professional clubs, colleges and youth clubs, who will train at the U.S. Olympic Training Center.
