Second Time’s a Charm: US Women Defeat Sweden 3-0

The US Women’s National Team faced Sweden on Saturday night at Rentschler Field in East Hartford, Connecticut. The meeting between the top-ranked US and fourth-ranked Sweden was the second between the two teams in less than a week – Tuesday night the two played to a 1-1 draw in Omaha, Nebraska.



U-20 Women blow out Switzerland at World Cup

The U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team defeated Switzerland 5-0 in its second Group D match at the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup as forward Sydney Leroux scored three times while Kristie Mewis and Zakiya Bywaters also added goals. The USA heads into its final Group D match against the Korea Republic on July 21 in Bielefeld (12 p.m. ET on ESPN2) needing a win or a tie to advance to the quarterfinals. A win would clinch the group title for the USA.



U-20 Women draw Ghana 1-1 in World Cup opener

The U.S. Under-20 Women’s National Team opened Group D play at the 2010 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup with 1-1 draw against Ghana as forward Sydney Leroux scored in the 70th minute to answer an early goal from the Africans.



USWNT renews rivalry with Sweden in two-game series

The USA renews what has been an excellent rivalry with Sweden, the home nation of its coach Pia Sundhage, during two summer matches starting tonight in Omaha, Neb. With the USA ranked first in the current FIFA Women’s World Rankings and Sweden at fourth, U.S. fans will once again get to see two of the top women’s teams in the world square off on American soil. Sundhage has called up 24 players, she will name 18 to suit up for both contests with the Swedes and could juggle the game roster between matches.



U-20 USWNT kick off defense of World Cup title
