ASN’s MLS Best XI, Week 16

By Breton Bonnette • Jul 27th, 2010 • Category: MLS News

Week Sixteen (or Week Seventeen, depending how you look at it) confirmed that Edson Buddle and Landon Donovan still deserve their title as best duo in the league but, as it was, the Galaxy looked relatively vulnerable. It was Buddle and Donovan who bailed them out late vs. San Jose. Kasey Keller showed he still [...]

Weekend MLS wrap: Frustration in Seattle, heartbreak in Philly, boredom in N.Y.

By ASN Staff • Jul 12th, 2010 • Category: MLS News

On the last weekend of World Cup action, Major League Soccer had a full schedule of games on tap. There were several results of importance, perhaps none bigger than the Landon Donovan-less LA Galaxy loss at the New England Revolution. In Seattle, the young Sounders provided a spark but it was 19-year-old Miguel Montano’s red [...]

Real Salt Lake extended their win streak Saturday to a franchise-best five games after dispatching the Kansas City Wizards 4-1 in a hotly contested affair. The ASN MLS Week 9 wrap-up

By ASN Staff • May 23rd, 2010 • Category: MLS News

The San Jose Earthquakes defeated the Seattle Sounders 1-0 to take three points at Qwest Field and all it took was three shots. But the real bombshell hit at the press conference when Sigi Schimd made several overtures seemingly directed at Freddie Ljungberg (left with Bobby Convey), wondering why unnamed players throw up their hands [...]

ASN’s MLS Best XI, Week 8

By Breton Bonnette • May 17th, 2010 • Category: Features

It was a week of shotstoppers and productive off-the-bench cameos. Fredy Montero and Danny Mwanga, only one of which made Week Eight’s Best XI, each had a little more than 10 minutes to do the trick. Both were up to the task, Mwanga rocketing a shot past seemingly unbeatable Kevin Hartman to grab a point [...]

MLS Week 8 wrap-up

By Breton Bonnette • May 16th, 2010 • Category: MLS News

The LA Galaxy hoped to send Landon Donovan and Edson Buddle off to national team camp in style but Toronto FC keeper Stefan Frei had other ideas. Three thousand miles away, at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, N.J., Fred Montero single-handedly put an end to the New York Red Bulls unbeaten run at their new ground, while in Philadelphia Brek Shea’s first regular season goal held up as the game winner for 94 minutes before Danny Mwanga got his first to rescue a draw for the Union. All this and more in our Week 8 wrap-up.
