In a match that featured intense physical play (Nate Jaqua, left, literally bled through all his game jerseys), defensive dominance, atrocious refereeing and a near-brawl, the Seattle Sounders drew 0-0 with the Houston Dynamo on Thursday night at Qwest Field. Seattle defender Patrick Ianni, a last-minute replacement in the starting lineup, came closest to scoring by hitting the crossbar late in the first half.

Sounders end FC Dallas playoff dream

The Sounders beat FC Dallas 2-1 on second-half goals by Nate Jaqua and Brad Evans Saturday night, terminating the playoff dreams of the Texas team in the last match of the regular season.



Sounders capture U.S. Open Cup

An 86th minute goal by Roger Levesque decided the 2009 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup championship, as the Seattle Sounders held on to beat DC United 2-1 in the final match at RFK Stadium Wednesday night. It is the first trophy for the expansion franchise and sends them to next year’s CONCACAF Champions League. But Sounders players and fans won’t be thinking about next year for a while. They’ll be enjoying the biggest win for any Seattle sports franchise in recent memory.
